I have done yearly mammograms since my 40s, and while I have gone 1.5 years I have not gone to every other year because to be honest I am concerned that something will be missed if I wait, and having had several friends diagnosed with breast cancer, my concern seems valid. That said, I have had several scares, gone through biopsies, ultrasounds and additional screenings that all turned out to be nothing. Looking back it is hard not to think that perhaps I would have been better off not subjecting myself to the additional testing and stress.
As more studies support that there is little benefit and more harm from yearly screenings and I am planning to discuss it with my doctor going forward. Take the time to read this very interesting article and let me know what you think.
