It also includes a lengthy discussion about the effects of poor diet and lifestyle choices on rates of chronic disease. This report marks "a major shift towards a "culture of health" that links human health with environmental health. One of the recommendations along these lines is a push to reduce unsustainable and inhumane meat production.
The report recommends a diet "rich in vegetables, fruit, whole grains, seafood, legumes, and nuts; moderate in low and non-fat dairy and alcohol; lower in red and processed meat; and low in sugar sweetened foods and refined grains." While it could go further, it is a good first step in the right direction and I ask your help in supporting this effort by encouraging the USDA to accept and implement these guidelines.
