Research in this area is fascinating. Studies of the human brain show that meditation and other mindfulness techniques cause increased activity in areas of the brain that reduce stress while causing other positive changes in the brains connectivity -- changes that were once thought to take place only in children. We are learning that even the adult brain can be rewired with the right training, and people with anxiety and stress can retrain their brains to react differently to stimulus.
This excites me because I have thought for a long time that there is a way to harness the power of meditation and mindfulness to help stop or reduce cravings and overeating. I am excited to study more and figure out how to best incorporate this into my health coaching practice. Wouldn't it be exciting if something as positive and exciting as mindfulness and meditation could help cure obesity? Stay tuned for more information -- I plan to post weekly updates on what I learn when class starts at the end of September.
Have a healthy and wonderful day!
