Its not just chips; crackers, cereals, candy bars and even soda is turning up with all kinds of crazy flavors (bacon soda anyone?). And have you seen how many types of Goldfish crackers now grace the store shelves? How much variety do we need in a country that already has access to the most diversified diet on the planet?
I get that food companies are out to make money, and they do that by beating out the competition to win market shares and of course this is another marketing ploy, but where does it stop? Food companies already spend a huge portion of their spending to find out how to get people hooked on foods that are convenient and inexpensive (a topic for another blog); do we need to go along with this newest craze that tries to lure us in with unusual and exotic flavors?
Can we all just agree to just say no to this newest junk food craze? It has no upside for anyone but does have the potential to get even more people to buy junk food just to experiment with crazy new flavors, and my fear is it particularly appeals to kids and teens who are particularly vulnerable to these types of marketing ploys.
